I have not “needed” another knife for decades. But I couldn’t resist when custom knife maker Jesse Hemphill  told me “Design your grail knife and I’ll make it.” Here is what we came up with.

The Cold Steel Master Hunter’s name says it all. If you could only have one knife for big game hunting, the Master Hunter just might be the best bet.

The L.T. Wright Genesis is one of my go-to bushcraft knives. So it took some convincing that it could be improved upon. If you’re looking for the ultimate bushcraft knife, the Genesis 6 is worth considering.

Just when you think something can’t be improved upon, it happens. That is the case with the new Bark River Gunny LT. About all I can add is “WOW”!

If a highly respected custom knife maker invited you to design your grail knife, what pattern and materials would you use? Jesse Hemphill made me that offer, and here is what I came up with.

A knife with inferior steel is a waste of money. But paying too much for the blade steel when you don’t need it may also be wasteful. What steel will work best for your hunting/ bushcraft/ survival cutlery needs? Don’t overlook A2 for your next knife.

Combine a classic knife design with modern materials and you get my business every time. Bark River has done it again with this recreation of my first good sheath knife.

The Bark River JX-6 probably shouldn’t be the only knife to take on a deer hunt, but it is one that shouldn’t be left behind.
