My Advertising Philosophy and Disclaimer

533 400 Survival Common Sense Blog | Emergency Preparedness

I do accept a limited number of advertisers in order to have the ability to write stories for my readers. And if you’re interested, I’d love to talk to you.

My Sponsor Philosophy: Advertisers ultimately finance the ability for an information medium to remain free to readers. Our constitution guarantees freedom of the press, but it doesn’t guarantee an income for writing! For this website to remain a free resource for my readers, I appreciate sponsors that cover the overhead.  However, my promise to my readers is that I write objectively without bias toward any commercial entity. How do I do that? Pretty well, as a matter of fact.

Here is how it works with my site:

Readers will notice there are advertisements on this site. These ads were accepted after I confirmed they have legitimate services or products. Advertising is only accepted from vendors of products and services that I know and trust, and have personally researched. Some of those advertisers’ products are my true favorites and some are not. I will occasionally take a look at my sponsors’ products and may choose to write an objective and critical review, with links to the products as a service to my readers. However, their sponsorship does not influence the content of my writing or my positive or negative review.

Sometimes a sponsor will send me products and ask me to write a product review. After thoroughly field testing the product, I’ll write about it and disclose that I was paid. Often I receive a product from a business with a request to review it. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. But here’s the deal. If I wouldn’t use a product myself, I won’t help promote it. In fact if I don’t like a product, I’ll tell you that, too. This leads to another point:

If  you become a paid advertiser on SurvivalCommonSense.com, you understand and agree that you have no control over the story content or what I write.

Here’s why: SurvivalCommonSense.com serves readers seeking helpful information about wilderness and urban survival techniques and equipment that might save their lives. I would never put my reputation or the information at risk to serve an advertiser. That objective information is what makes the advertising even more valuable – that my readers trust what I say.

My personal integrity and reputation is all that separates SurvivalCommonSense.com from hordes of  unethical internet “survival” sites. My byline guarantees I did my best in research, writing and fact-checking. This site is, now and forever, rated “G.” I am honored when Boy Scouts visit the website to learn more about the outdoors, or when parents refer my site to other parents. You won’t see outrageous headlines or scary articles about doomsday or end times. I don’t write for “click bait”. I write for the average person to learn something about common sense survival techniques.
