Guys typically don’t sit around the campfire at the hunting camp discussing the best outdoor skin care products. At least they don’t at the camps I get invited to.
But these skin care products may change that. They did for me!

USOS supplied the products for this testing. I was not paid to review or write this post, and it is strictly my opinion. Nobody had any input into these contents. At the time of publication, there was no advertising or affiliate agreement with UWSOS. All we ever promise is a fair, impartial review.
After three days of elk hunting in November in the high mountains of Idaho, the cold, brilliant sunshine and gusty, raw winds sunburned and chapped my face. In particular, my lips were painful and cracked. It hurt to smile. Every part of my face exposed exposed to the elements was wind burned and sore.
I suffered the opposite temperature extreme was on a Mississippi River canoe trip. The intense heat and wind made my face feel like it had first been sandblasted, and then finished off with a hairdryer set on high. If it wouldn’t have been for my fingerless gloves, my hands would have been beet red also.

The Mil USOS products cover every skin care and facial care need.
I get it that sunscreen should go along on every outdoor outing. And staying clean outdoors is preventative maintenance against, blisters, rashes, scrapes and becoming socially offensive. Consistent cleanliness can also eliminate “sweat acne”, breakouts, pimples, and blemishes.
But despite these regular outdoor experiences, skincare was just something I never gave much thought to. So I was kinda ho-hum, semi-interested and lukewarm at first about field testing the line of Mil Usos™ skin care products. But I found out what I’d been missing.
Mil Usos is Spanish for “one thousand uses.” It also means “a handyman” – someone who can fix everything. Mil Usos was created to take care of all skincare needs with as few products as possible. The idea is to deliver elevated skincare for athletes and adventure seekers. The “Made in USA” products feature high-quality ingredients.
What first caught my attention was the idea that a few products could cover every skincare need.
“The main reason skin and scalp become flakey, itchy, and irritated is because the ingredients in most soaps and shampoos haven’t been updated in decades,” claims Mil Usos founder Becky Williams. “We use quality ingredients for elevated skincare on the go. It was made specifically to suit the needs of athletes and dial in the gear of outdoor enthusiasts and travelers.”

Here’s how the products worked out fort me:
Easy to use: Application of the Cranarchy Multi-Use Balm is a no-brainer – squeeze some out and rub it into your skin. It’s amazingly creamy and rich, and softened my old-guy skin and felt soothing. Like I said, I don’t use lotion, but I began this nightly routine and now I’m hooked.
Non-greasy: Once the balm is rubbed into the skin, it doesn’t leave a greasy residue.
The Char Goals Everything Bar Cleanser can be used head-to-toe. If staying clean shaven is desirable, the cleanser bar lathers up nicely with a badger-hair shaving brush. (I can be really old school when it comes to shaving!) It goes without saying that all soap in the backcountry should be biodegradable. No soap residue should ever be poured into a water source!
Discourages blisters: I don’t get blisters on my feet since I have excellent, broken-in boots and great socks. I also wouldn’t admit to getting blisters here! The moisturizer/balm feels really good on your feet at the end of the day, and that might be reason enough to take it along. Even my callused, toughened feet can appreciate the soothing lotion.
Then there’s this:
These products are high end in quality and also price. I feel like the balm is well worth it, but it’s not your typical grocery store brand. It’s a commitment to your skin.
According to their site, “Total Cranarchy is unique because it’s made from a base of vitamin-rich plant oils. The lightweight texture vanishes instantly into skin, where it restores the deeper layers. Our antimicrobial extracts not only protect the skin from pathogenic invaders, but they also banish redness and improve skin health.” That feels true enough.
Mil Usos Char Goals Everything Bar Cleanser is available at Mil Usos for $26 USD. It did last a long time and for a guy, can replace both your shampoo and soap. Unlike some other fancy, goat milk, lathery bars my wife has been known to buy at the farmer’s market, this one is much better.
Here’s what they say about it. “Activated charcoal is the active ingredient that gives our bar its deep gray color. It boasts powerful antimicrobial properties and latches on to invading microbes, dirt, and grime like a boss. It has gentle exfoliation properties and helps de-stinkify those pits and bits that need it most!”
My daughter Mary was raised right (IMO). She runs, bikes, rock climbs, surfs, backpacks and plays basketball, softball and pickle ball. She will be getting some of these products next time I see her and she’ll be thrilled. Give it a try – I appreciate Mil Usos letting me pamper myself for the first time.
