Here is a way to use up some candle odds-and-ends and rags to make a superior fire starter.

Check out your junk drawer – chances are you have some candles that you don’t really know what to do with. Some of them would be very useful during a power outage but that hasn’t happened in a long time, and the candles just keep getting moved around. Maybe it’s time to recycle them into something that will be used more.
These credit-card sized waxed fire starters will fit in a wallet or purse and make several individual fires.
This waxed fire starter uses materials that might otherwise get thrown out. The cost of making this fire starter is whatever it takes to melt the wax, and possibly a few Ziploc bags to store it in. Being wax, the firestarter can melt in a hot car or summer heat. This is not something to leave on the dash of your car.
To start a fire, fray one edge of the waxed material and light it. The beauty of this fire starter is low-to-no cost, efficiency, and ease of manufacture. It’s also waterproof.
