The World War II veterans are becoming more and more rare as the passage of time takes them.
I was delighted to see this Bend, Oregon Pearl Harbor survivor was at the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack.

When I worked for the Bend (Oregon) Bulletin some 20+ years ago, I always attended the Pearl Harbor Survivors breakfast on Dec. 7. As a reporter, my job was to sit, listen and record their stories for the newspaper.
I tried to talk to all the veterans. I met Dick Higgins at one of these gatherings. Very noticeable at these breakfasts was the lack of chest-thumping war stories. The men were all very modest and none of them considered themselves heroes or exceptional.
Here is the complete KTVZ story of the 80th Pearl Harbor reunion.
